Goodbye

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 13; the thirteenth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton.

How much time is too much time?Or,how much time is too little.
With these thoughts racing through her mind,she sat down.Her increased heart beat told her,that this is not what it was meant to be.
This had always felt right.When they were young teens walking hand in hand in the college campus,it felt just right.They were kids.They were asumed to have a casual fling.But god,they didn't.It was love.Not some teeny-weeny love affair.The real one,the mature one.Yes,it was love allright.
They grew up,the love remained.Or so,they thought.They were petty issues,there always were.She sighed,thats the thing with teenage love addicts,they think everything can be worked upon.And they did,temporarily ofcourse.
They got married.Was it then that it went downhill.She sighed.Having had a difficult childhood,she had wanted her marriage to be the best thing ever.More than that,she wanted her marriage to stay.
She looked at the rock on her finger.That was the best day of her life,and her blood flow got all pulsating.She heard them laughing.
This wan't the time for reminiscing those days,It was time to leave.Not for once,could she bear to see her with him in the same house.
It changed so fast.Coming late for work,frequent day-outs with friends.But all thats done.
It was time for the goodbyes.

The man she loved,for the last 10 years had changed.He was the one she had her first kiss with.He was the one to whom she had submitted herself,physically,emotionally and mentally.And he didn't belong to her anymore.
It would be painful to utter the word.This wasn't right,he had been her's always.How could they part?How could he ever love someone else,after all the promises that they had made?Had she asked too much from God..??
Her last week in the house,had gone into planning this very moment again and again.She had promised herself,that she wouldn't be any weaker.She'd wish him all the luck in the world (yeah,right*),and would make a graceful exit.But as she went down the stairs,she felt her feet growing numb.
"Fuck",she murmured under her breath.She stopped,midway.Took in the air around her slowly.Tried to let the feeling sink in.It was goodbye time after all.As she walked down again,she saw them slipping into his room.Arm in arm,smiling.Not once,had he looked back.Not once.Not a glance.She's didn't even get his goodbye.
Tears streamed down her face.She wiped them,took a piece of paper,wrote down the seven letters and slowly hissed,"Goodbye,love".

Interesting. Reminds me of another story that someone told me, it was about the novel by Tagore, The two sisters.

Teen love is something that has very less chances of being real and forever. Don't know why but its often an infatuation. Maybe the thrill of getting what is desired is highest in youth.

Nice read.

People change. Often it's not for the better. The only reason marriage appeared to work in the past is because it was unacceptable for it to not, so truths were hidden and many things (affairs, abuses) were over-looked. Nothing about marriage has changed except for the fact that people can now choose to leave without much criticism.

Still, many still expect marital bliss regardless of statistics. Everyone is the exception to the rule. Everyone still clings to that hope that they'll have that ideal perfect marriage, the one their own parents couldn't pull off.

I don't mean for this to sound hopeless, but if people understood how rare it is, maybe they wouldn't beat themselves up so much when it turns out their first love just isn't the one, no matter how much you wish he or she was.

I think the failure is that people erroneously believe finding love is finding your other half. It's not though. You are a whole and complete person. You can love another immensely, but you can't predict or control their actions or future, no matter how safe you feel.

Maintain your wholeness or you'll find yourself lost and left missing a part of yourself. No person should be given that much power, regardless of so-called romantic notions.

Very poignant.The hard truth.They had much expectations from each other but none was satisfied with the way things were going..dunno why this happens.At one point in time,we are too sure of things and when our wish is actually granted,we have to repent!
Brilliantly done! All the best!

@Anonymous someone..teen love,in most cases falls apart.I so wish,it wasn't that way :) .

@Z.J.Ascensio..love is not to be forced.It just happens,and then it stays,if its the genuine everlasting one.
And when two people,genuinely in love get married,marraige is just a legal label to their relationship.The love,if genuine,should remain,no matter what.

@Vivek..thank you.

It's sad, isn't it? All our kid's fairy tales end with "and they lived happily ever after" and as we grow older we realize there is no happily ever after, after all! Nice read. All the best for BATOM!

I guess love doesn't last forever in most cases. That kind of thing only exists in romance novels and rom coms.
In the end we're left with no other choice but to say goodbye.
Best of luck for BAT!

Meher said...

@Samadrita..love ceases to exist when it ain't genuine and ever lasting.
thankyou.

Your post is full of emotions! I mean while reading your post I could imagine your fictitious character lost in thoughts and writing a goodbye letter.

And I found a mistake in your post. Goodbye is 7 lettered not 7 words :P Being a software guy, I cannot resist this urge to point out software bug in other person's code. So is this urge!!

Its just sad when one believes to enter a relationship expecting it to be all 'happily ever after' but is just so not the case all the time.

Hard-hitting. Though the hope of "This too shall pass by and mend itself" is not something only by the teenagers. Loved it!

All the best!

@Keerthi P...thanks a ton..!!

It's a lovely story,sad yet truthful.Some say love is all but a chemical reaction in your body that stays hardly for a year..sometimes I agree,but sometimes I see aged couples having a quiet moment together that makes me trust love all over again.But the question still remains,how much of yourself can you give to him?
Good luck for BAT13!

Meher said...

@Rinaya...its better not to generalise love as a temporary or permanent feeling.If its genuine and pure,it should stay forever.
